Postdoctoral Research Associate in Theoretical and Computational Beam/Plasma Physics

in Los Alamos, New Mexico

Category: Grants
Posted by: admin

The T-5 Applied Mathematics and Plasma Physics Group in the Theoretical Division of Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a candidate for postdoctoral appointment in theoretical and computational beam/plasma physics research. Area of particular interest are: computation methods for nonlinear particle beam dynamics, high brightness beams for advanced accelerators and radiation sources, kinetic particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations to support the experimental research in relativistic laser interaction with matter and other high-energy-density (HED) plasma physics. In addition, depending on his/her expertise, the candidate may contribute to a broad range of research projects including semiconductor photocathode modeling, numerical methods for kinetic plasmas. The initial appointment is for two years, with a possible third year extension depending on performance and funding availability.

Candidates may also be nominated for a Director's Fellowship and outstanding candidates may be considered for the prestigious Darleane Christian Hoffman, Richard P. Feynman, J. Robert Oppenheimer, or Frederick Reines Fellowships. Applicants with US citizenship will also be considered for the Metropolis Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Physics. For the named fellowship, the research scope can be broadened to include any topic of mutual interest, for example, in astrophysical plasmas, high brightness electron/ion and secondary radiation sources, advanced accelerators, inertial confinement fusion, machine learning in computational beam/plasma physics.
